October signifies more to Arizonans than just the beginning of Fall. There is finally a break in the scorching heat, we have the back-to-school routine down and pumpkin “everything” has hit the shelves. Of course, it also means one of our favorite celebrations of the year is here, Oktoberfest. So it’s time to dust off your favorite stein, pull out those dirndl and lederhosen and prepare yourself to polka. Here are eight rural towns around the sate that will get you in the Oktoberfest spirit.
Clarkdale – “Clarktoberfest” Main Street will be blocked off in the Historic Business District to make room for Clarkdale’s party of the year. Guests can enjoy local beer, local wine, food from Clarkdale’s finest eateries, arts and crafts booths, a family friendly kid zone and live music. Five bands are scheduled to entertain, including Damn the Weather, Aces ‘N Eights and the delightful Terra and the Cultivators. This day-long destination is a must see for locals and visitors alike. Flagstaff – “Flagstaff Oktoberfest” Like the Oktoberfest in Munich, the Flagstaff Oktoberfest would not be true to its name if it were not complete with a constant flow of great beer. Not to mention the Mug Root Beer Garden for the kiddos! Complete with a great polka line-up on the stage the Oktoberfest in Flagstaff packs all the fun of the 16-day celebration into one happening and unbelievable Saturday in beautiful downtown Flagstaff. Kingman – “Brew and Brats Oktoberfest ” Brought to you by the Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club this two day event is sure to be a crowd favorite. Attendees will get to experience fine German beer, bratwurst and sauerkraut, soft pretzels, live entertainment, contests and more under the Big Tent. There will also be a giant Swap Meet and a triathlon for all interested. Friday-Saturday, October 2nd-3rd, 10AM-10PM Location: Locomotive Park
Sedona – “Red Rocks Oktoberfest” Local Arizona craft brewers are excited to present their Oktoberfest beers at this scenic event. Guests can get their fill of German style bratwurst, potato salad, and big pretzels. Live entertainment will include music by Big Willie and the Polka Meisters. Don’t forget to pick up a signature glass stein to mark the occasion. Saturday, October 3rd, 5PM-9PM. Location: Posse Grounds Park.
Seligman – “German Fest” Weside Lilo’s is proud to bring you the Oompah Meisters Trio as your Oktoberfest entertainment. This trio is quickly gaining success as one of the premier polka groups around. While listening to their great performance guests can enjoy imported German beer, traditional German cuisine and more! Saturday, October 3rd, 3PM-12AM. Location: Westside Lilo’s
Sierra Vista – “Elk’s Oktoberfest” This annual event will feature many traditional German favorites. Experience authentic German cuisine, live entertainment, dancing and a contest for best-dressed German outfit. Not only can you enjoy a festive celebration, you can also enjoy the great October scenery of Sierra Vista with its cooling temperatures and the leaves changing on the trees of the Huachuca Mountains. Saturday, October 17th, 2PM-11PM. Location: Elk’s Lodge.
Sonoita – “Oktoberfest” This years Oktoberfest is going to be bigger and better than ever! German beer, German food and German music galore. Kids can enjoy special sweets, sno-cones and a petting zoo. Grab a souvenir tasting stein and get ready to celebrate. Saturday, October 10th, 11AM-6PM. Location: 3450 Highway 82.
Tucson – “Baja Oktoberfest” The Arizona Craft Brewer’s Guild is excited to bring Baja Oktoberfest to Tucson. Not only will there be over 50 craft brews flowing, Baja Oktoberfest will also feature signature German and American dishes from local food trucks, fun games like a brat eating contest, Car Pull, walking Polka Band and a DJ to get people up and dancing. This event is set to be the premier event for craft beer in southern Arizona with a huge emphasis on local craft beer and culture. Saturday, October 3rd, 5PM-10PM. Location: Veterans Memorial Stadium.
